Gallery Building Phase

  • Houseboat Giethoorn Intermezzo

These are pictures of the water villa under construction. From an old houseboat to an empty lot into a modern nature villa.

A report of the various construction phases of our houseboat. From sketch to a water villa. The slow wind and waterproofing of the houseboat to finally be able to start the finish. A two-year project, carried out mainly by one person. A slow metamorphosis into what will eventually be our houseboat Intermezzo.

This plot is located at the dead end of Giethoorn to Dwarsgracht, among other houseboats overlooking the park the Weerribben-Wieden. A somewhat dated and obsolete houseboat, a somewhat natural overgrown garden, but also a challenge at this prime location in the nature reserve the Weerribben-Wieden to build a house boat of your own design. The design of the water villa Intermezzo is homemade and inspired by the surroundings of Giethoorn. Here comes back the typical and authentic use of black as wallcovering, but now used in modern shape and sleek in the rear wall and entrance to the houseboat. Here we see a clear example of Dutch Design; minimalist, experimental, innovative and within this framework finding the limit of what is possible. The first line on paper, a concrete tank, the first beams to make it wind and waterproof, to finally start finishing. Two winters will it take to build this water villa, sometimes with some help, but mostly alone. An adventure, but above all a chore. Scaffolding, auxiliary steps, cover films, a wood stove and measuring without plump rule. Normally we design and visualize stands for exhibitions and fairs. See our website Stand Art
